we remember

we remember
your joy, when
out of nothing, stars were woven
balls of light, with breath of air
sparkling
in the dimness, glowing hope
and you were proud

the trees, teaching how to sigh
tales of time
before time
those same stars, clad in bark
and we strolled, together
with flowers for friends

we did not know, exactly when
the time had come
we had not talked of late
but when we saw, the mountains
crumbling, slopes of tears
the greenness lose that deepened glow
we knew it was too late

in panicked fear, we strove to find
a thread, a scent, a sound

and we lost track of time

when we sit, alone in pain
forgetting words
unexpressed
we wish we’d had more time, to ask you
why
